Ballet Carnivale!!

June 2009 - This one was an exciting one - and a pure test of imagination. I got this order through a friend in Brisbane. They had liked the Barbie Cake that I did for Lilly and asked if I could do this for there little girl. She was having a Bowling Party and wanted to wear this gorgeous Ballet Tutu. Photos were sent through and to begin with I really thought I would fail. After a lot of searching I came up with another "Carnivale Tent" theme and then had little dolly vardens around the base dressed in their tutus. I had three designs in mind. The blue was the easiest - using a hair scrunchy as the tutu skirt, the pink was just buttercream piped around as the skirt and topped with silver cachous, the last which was my favourite and also the hardest / time consuming. Layers of skirt were made from fondant and "hung" over straws to harden into the wavy look and then assembled. As much as I would have loved to have done these, the price would have blown out and I just did not feel right doing that. In the end we went with the scrunchy option. It was still a stunning look. The main cake was just assembled with choccy planks around the perimeter and then topped with a ribbon tent top.
I thought that the result was stunning!!!
