05 Sept 2009 - The last one for this week was my masterpiece - even if I say so myself. The request was a mermaid cake and after some research we came up with this. I again had lots of fun creating icing decorations which certainly took some time (my first efforts were pretty lame) thankfully by the time it came to assemble there were plenty of acceptible creations. A double layer round buttercake filled with jam and buttercream formed the base and then a small pudding bowl shaped buttercake formed the "rock" for the mermaid to sit on. The fish, were found at a local lolly store and the seaweed was piped on using a Wilton Leaf Tip. My greatest purchase for this cake was a Wilton Cake Icing tip - this large tip allows you to cover the whole cake neatly, without crumbs, and in next to no time at all - just amazing - why had I not purchased one of these earlier. My own kids response to the cake was of pure awe and I am happy to say that the birthday girl, her parents and all at the party thought similar - I was really chuffed as I thought myself that my little mermaid was rather spectacular!! Happy Birthday Robyn XX
