Ellie's 13th Birthday Pressie

Sept 2010 - Wow where has the time gone. When we first met Ellie she was 9 1/2yo. The time has gone so fast and she is now a teenager!! Anyways being of such an importantant age we felt that something more funky and "teenagerish" was called for. The usual butter cake was covered in butter cream and then decorated as a present using black fondant. I am pleased to report that the cake was beautiful and very "funky"

Rose-Anna's 40th

Sept 2010 - One of the Mum's at school had a slap dash do for her 40th. She liked the cake we did for Judy's wedding so much we did another one - as well as a 2nd cake to cater for everyone.
Both came out pretty stunning.

Daisy Cake

August 2010 - I had just completed week 1 and 2 of the 2nd course of my Wilton Decorating when this one was done. The parent reps were collecting money for our kid's teacher's bday so instead of money I offered the cake instead. It meant that I could practise my royal icing daisy's. cake was a hit and looked ok too

Jude's Wedding Cake

July 2010 - Another one that came through the shop and one that I so underquoted the boss on hours. The design of the cupcakes was taken from the WW Cupcake Book and were chocolate mudcakes covered in choc ganache. The leaves, gumnuts and stems were all hand made using real leaves and balling melted chocolate. Took an age as there needed to have at least 3 leaves and anything up to 10 gumnuts on each. It was a real lesson in chocolate LOL. The main cake however was a 8" triple layer chocolate mud cake filled and covered with ganache. We made chocolate shards to go around the perimeter and Jude had a small posy of flowers that matched her bouquet to sit on top. We then set them all up on the perspex tier - it looked fabulous but unfortunately I am still waiting on the photo of it all set up.

Richmond Tigers Cake

July 2010 - Richmond Tigers Cake. I got this job through the shop. The client's son was a mad Richmond Tiger's AFL Team supporter. The cake itself was a dark chocolate mud covered in smooth white chocolate ganache. The Wilton tubes again were a blessing - they seem to be a lot easier to manage than the piping bag for intricate work.

Sponge Bob Square Pants

July 2010 - Maggie's Sponge Bob - I just love doing cakes for this client - the look on her face and the "gusto" that she thanks you with makes the hours of labouring with sore eyes worth every minute. I used a Wilton Pan that I hired from work - these are very easy to use and I also discovered the joy of using the Wilton ready made icing tubes which you just screw on your couplers and tips too. Makes all that fine detail very easy.

Club Penguin

May 2010 - OOps a bit out of order. Wow a year has gone by since I did this young man's Bart Cake. Seems the fad now is Club Penguin - for any oldies like me - it is a kids web site where they play games and chat. Anyways, Chris wanted a penguin and with props from his collection I used the womans weekly kids book for the template and then we added all the minature statues around it as well as multi coloured cupcakes around the perimeter. The cake itself was dairy / nut free so we had to used dairy alternatives to milk (soy) and butter (nuttelix). The taste of the icing is rather different if you are not used to it - more of a margerine taste. In the end it was just the birthday boy to really impress which we did YAY!

The Masterpiece!!

June 27, 2010 - Bronte's Birthday Cake - Well firstly have to say that I was not overly pleased with the result of this one but in my defence we were still packing lolly bags and melting chocolate for the ganache (which took an age to set) at 11pm the night before the party. I started icing just after midnight and I went to bed at 330am. We were due at the park at 8am to secure prime location for the party. Thankfully Jeff was the one that went up and i did the final pack of all the food. Anyways the day was a hoot and noone seemed to mind the fact that the fondant was not as smooth as it should be and that one of the panels had a mended tear that went wrong LOL. The cake was a double 20cm round buttercake, cut in halves again and filled with white chocolate ganache and nuttella and rosella jam in alternate fills. It was then covered with white chocolate ganache and then a further marshmallow fondant cover. The flowers were made alternately - some with flower modelling paste (which I will never use again as it took an age to dry and even now a week later it still has not set hard) and some with the marshmallow fondant which set beautifully overnight. The combination of flavours was truly amazing. I love my buttercake, it just lends itself to such a variety of different flavours - have yet to experience one that I have not liked and considering the number of cakes I make - it must be good if I still eat it!! Anyways, on the day, in the park and the setting, the cake looked lovely and my we little 7 yo loved it.

Bronte's School Bday Cupcakes

June 2010 - As per normal Bronte went armed on the last day of school with a few dozen cupcakes to celebrate her birthday. I have been spending a bit of money out of my wages to increase my supplies in cutters and essences. For these I used "Musk" essence which made the icing taste like those pink musk stick lollies (very yummy altho once I had finished icing the several dozen cakes I found it rather overpowering LOL). Also used my new daisy cutter to make the little flowers. We did half in pink and half in blue. The big birthday party is planned for next week so hopefully between now and then I will gain some inspiration for the "masterpiece" LOL

Disco Fever

June 2010 - Little girls love Disco Party's and this one went all out including not just a real disco ball but also a Disco Ball Cake. The place looked fabulous and I have to say that the cake just topped it all off. I used the Wilton 3D Soccer Ball tin to make both the semi circles which were then stuck together with buttercream and jam. The cake was then covered in buttercream and I then placed little squares of white chocolate (that had been melted down and carved up into the correct size) all around the ball. The final touch was some star picks made out of fondant and then everything was sprayed with Pink Pearl Lustre spray. The spray is certainly not cheap but it was the crowning touch to the cake. Shaye was over the moon with it as was I.

Toot Toot Chugga Chugga Big Red Car

May 2010 - Did you know that Wiggles are now out of fad. I so wanted little men to be sitting in the car but the best I could do was a "Dorothy" at the back. This one was for the Boss's Grandson so it had to be spot on - lol specially since she taught me a lot of what I know. We used the Wilton Racing car pan - it took 3 cake quantities and a month of Sunday's to cook - was really worried that it was going to be over done as it was quite "crunchy" on the outside. Anyways I star piped most and then used coloured fondant cut outs for all the relevant areas. The end result was a hit and thankfully the boss loved it too!

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear

March 2010 - Another one from a Google Search for a little boy from Sydney who was having his first birthday up at Noosa with his extended family. I was really chuffed that my name now comes up in google searches. Better still that looking at my work, people seem to have confidence in my decorating ability. There have been a few that I have turned down - just a tad too hard for my liking. Anyways, this one was a teddy bear so I finally got to use the teddy bear pan that my sister bought me for my birthday a couple of years ago. The icing was then spatula'd onto the cake to make him look furry!

Special Agent OSO

March 2010 - This one was really hard and for an unknown client so I was very nervous about it. Seeing as tho I had no idea who Special Agent Oso was either did not help. Anyways after a bit of research I decided to take the job. We used the Wilton #D Teddy cake pan to form the body and then star tip to pipe the icing with some fondant cutouts to form the hands, mouth, eyes, ears and jacket. Mine was a bit dumpier than the original picture as the agent is more like a bear in a penguin shape if that makes sense LOL. Anyways, I thought it was a good attempt even if I was not 100% happy.

Ella's Pink Heart

March 2010 - This was such and easy cake to do and was made to the specific instructions of one very gorgeous 4 year old. She wanted pink around the outside, a red heart in the middle with a white border. I used a star tip to pipe the pattern all over. We then placed it on a heart shaped board that I picked up at spotlight.

Wise Owl

February 2010 - for this cake an owl or blue and orange roses was requested so I decided to combine both - was rather hard to find a cute owl piccie but this one turned out ok. I added in some Wilton Roses in the colours requested for a bit of decoration.

60th Flag of the World Cake

January 2010 - Flags of the World. Picked this one up from a client at work - She wanted something fancy for her husband's 60th birthday. He had lived all over the world so we decided to incorporate all the country's flags into the design. My usual butter cake and butter cream with the choccy shards for this one with some additional fondant stars and of course all the flags.

Pirate Pete

January 2010 - Wow it has been a while - some interesting cakes and lots of work at the shop. Now a bit of catching up to do. I did this one for one of the kids at school. His mum usually makes a stunning cake but this year was strapped for time so she asked me to do it for her. Found this cake in Pirate Images and I really loved it. I had also found out about Marshmallow Fondant so I put it to the test. The face was a pudding bowl shaped cake sitting on top of a 23" round cake. Crumb iced with butter cream and then the MMF over the top. Also added some mini black cupcakes around the outside with little Skull and Crossbone flags that I picked up on Ebay,

You Better Be There Or The Duck Gets It

December 2009 - Rubber Duckie Youre The One - but if you don't come the duck is gonna get it LOL One of those had to be in the know jokes. This was for a combined birthday party. The invitations were sent out on Duck Stationery. Anyways the request was that when the duck was cut into, could it ooze blood. I borrowed this fabulous Wilton 3D Duck pan from work and off I went. The middle was hollowed out, lined with chocolate to form a cup and filled with raspberry jam - creating the oozing of blood!!!

Answer 2 No 1

November 2009 - Karl's Basic 50th - what a fabulous party and what a way to celebrate such a fabulous event. Lyn put on a fabulous cocktail party spread, all the girls dressed up and all the boys were pretty "Basic". Originally we planned a black and white theme to the cake and I was inspired by a few lopsided layers. However when asked, Karl wanted his trademark and logo so that was what he got. ANSWER 2 NO 1!!!!! We made a double layer vanilla buttercake and shaped it into an oval. Covered in vanilla buttercream and adorned with black ribbon around the base. The logo was carefully cut out of black fondant. Was a mission but I was really happy with the results. I have also started doing a criss cross filling as well with buttercream and jam - when you cut the cake you can see the filling stripes and it is quite effective.

Bethie's Tinkerbell Garden

October 2009 - Poor Bethie - I was so not prepared for her birthday this year - with work, school end of year, school breakups etc, ballet recitals and work I was so behind the 8 ball. Beth was really into miniture tinkerbell. For her present she received a little Tink Teapot house and all the little fairies to go with it. For her cake we used all the fairies and made a garden scene out of lots of fondant flowers. Was not up to my usual standards but still she thought it was a treat!!
